Reading the IP code without the folklore
IP ratings come from the IEC ingress protection code, and the two digits do separate jobs. The first digit, 6, is the highest dust grade: no ingress of dust, tested in a dust chamber — the rating that matters when a terminal lives through harvest chaff, quarry fines or construction dust for years. The second digit, 6, certifies protection against powerful water jets from any direction: the pressure-washing and driving-rain grade. IP66 is therefore not a swimming rating and not a steam-cleaning rating; it is the working-vehicle rating, aimed precisely at the two things that kill cab electronics — what the air carries in, and what the wash bay throws at the machine.
How IP66 connects to the rest of the vehicle specification
Sealing never works alone. A sealed terminal still needs vibration behaviour (the T-series specifications name MIL-STD-810 testing), shock behaviour (ISO 16750), a temperature range that covers a frosty start and a sun-baked cab (-20 to +70 C across the range), and electrical behaviour that survives cranking and load dumps (9-36 V with ISO 7637-II). In the company's published gallery, test material for the T10 family includes an IP66 test report name among its certificate images; the honest way to treat any model's paperwork is to ask for the current test and certificate copies for your exact configuration when you enquire. Ratings also assume the installation respects them — connectors mated, cable glands as designed, no drilled housings.
- First digit 6: dust-tight, the top dust grade
- Second digit 6: powerful water jets from any direction
- Not covered: immersion, steam cleaning, chemical exposure
- Sealing works with vibration, shock and temperature ratings, not instead of them
- Ask for current test copies for your exact configuration
- Installation quality is part of the rating in practice
IP66 in the mounted range's specifications
For sealed vehicle terminals, the T10 brings a 10.1" IPS, 1280 x 800, brightness 750 cd/m2 or higher, fully laminated multi-touch and runs Android 10.0, or Linux kernel 4.9 with QT 5.12 (optional) on 64-bit quad-core Cortex-A53 at 1.5 GHz. Its positioning fit is GPS + BeiDou module (optional fit); RTK module UM482 or UB482 (optional), and the interface side reads: 14PIN connector x1 and 23PIN connector x1, both function extension interfaces; default function set of 4 x camera, 2 x CAN, 2 x RS232 and 1 x 100M Ethernet. That is why it appears in this shortlist: the combination matches the data and connections this work actually uses, in a housing specified for 9-36 V DC input (ISO 7637-II); IP66 sealing; operating temperature -20 to +70 C.
For sealed vehicle terminals, the T8 brings a 8" IPS, 1280 x 800, brightness 750 cd/m2 or higher, fully laminated multi-touch and runs Android 10.0 on 64-bit quad-core Cortex-A53 at 1.5 GHz. Its positioning fit is GPS + BeiDou module (N303-5Q); optional built-in centimetre-level RTK positioning module (module model not stated on the product page), and the interface side reads: 23-pin function expansion port; standard expansion set of 1 x camera, 1 x CAN, 1 x RS485, 1 x 100M Ethernet plus power/ACC. That is why it appears in this shortlist: the combination matches the data and connections this work actually uses, in a housing specified for 9-36 V DC input (ISO 7637-II); IP66 sealing; operating temperature -20 to +70 C; MIL-STD-810 and ISO 16750 testing.
Specifying sealing for your workplace
Describe your real exposure — dust type, wash routine, rain and temperature — rather than asking for the biggest number. Most vehicle work is honestly IP66 work. Send the exposure description with your enquiry and confirm the model's test documentation, minimum order quantities and lead times with the sales team.
Ask about a sealed terminal matched to your workplace
Send your vehicle, software and interface list. The sales team replies with a configuration and price.
